Arianna Simpson is the founder and managing director of Autonomous Partners, an investment fund focused on cryptocurrencies and digital assets. She is also an active angel investor and venture partner at Crystal Towers Capital, an early-stage VC fund which Arianna and her partner launched in 2015. Prior to Crystal Towers, Arianna spent time working in sales and product roles at Facebook and BitGo, an enterprise security company for bitcoin and other digital currencies.

Professor Wim Schoutens

Professor at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) and founding partner of RiskConcile

Wim Schoutens (Leuven, Belgium) is a professor in financial engineering at the University of Leuven, Belgium. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics.

Further, he is a founding partner of RiskConcile, a fast growing (and profitable) fintech company focussing on machine learning, quantitative advisory and cloud-based solutions for the financial industry.

He is an independent expert advisor to the European Commission and author of several books on financial engineering.

He is Managing Editor of Quantitative Finance and of the International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Finance. Further, he is series editor of the book series "Financial Engineering Explained" for Palgrave Macmillan.

Finally, he is an expert in blockchain technology and is a crypto-currency trading and risk-management professional.

Chris Usher (Chairman)

Chief Executive Officer of JIBS Events

Chris has over 20 years’ experience in international financial services, working both in the UK and offshore, for major financial institutions such as Barclays Wealth and Santander.

Formerly an International Investment Manager he advised both individuals and corporate entities on complex investment scenarios. He now specialises in delivering training in investment management, taxation and regulatory matters in international finance centres around the world.

Chris is a specialist chairman of a number of high-profile events, including conferences such as the Annual Compliance & Economic Crime Symposium and the International Taxation Conference. As an expert in the financial crime risks posed to international offshore financial centres, Chris was invited to speak at the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) conference on the topic of ‘Understanding the Criminal Vulnerabilities of Offshore Products and Services’.

Gus is a technology evangelist and leader with broad experience from his 20 years in senior roles as Chief Technology Officer for a number of organisations from bootstrapped startups to enterprise consultancy organisations.

With a “Change the world” attitude, he is also CEO of Atam ID Technologies leveraging cutting edge biometric and blockchain technologies for identity use cases including KYC & CDD, and also holds a number of advisory positions at fintech and other startups.

He is regular speaker at conferences on various technology and leadership topics including Identity, Cybersecurity and Blockchain and has been investing in cryptocurrencies since mining litecoins in 2013.

Partner at Carey Olsen

Christopher has broad experience of both general international corporate and funds work with particular expertise in private equity and hedge funds, having spent ten years in the City at Ashurst, RAB Capital plc and most recently at SJ Berwin.

At Carey Olsen, Christopher advises on all aspects of fund and corporate transactions, including the legal and regulatory aspects of fund launches, and joint ventures. He also has considerable experience in dealing with the Jersey Financial
Services Commission in navigating investment vehicles through the Jersey regulatory approval process.

While at Ashurst and SJ Berwin, he acted for several hedge funds, private equity and venture capital houses in relation to their fund launches, carried interest arrangements and ongoing corporate governance issues, including fund restructurings. During his time at RAB, Christopher set up several funds and advised in relation to the establishment of numerous managed accounts, including several bespoke performance fee mechanisms. More recently, Christopher has advised both managers and investors on the legal aspects of fund restructurings.

Nick Vermeulen

Partner at PwC Channel Islands

Nick is a Partner with PwC based in Guernsey. He is responsible for leading innovation and technology within PwC in the Channel Islands. Nick is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. He has a degree in Computer Science and worked on highly secure communication systems for the UK Government prior to joining PwC. In 2015 Nick wrote the Fintech Strategy for the Guernsey Government looking at how the island might seek out opportunities to use new technology such as AI-based robo advisers and cryptographically secured databases such as the blockchain. Since then he has been working with Northern Trust on their blockchain system for the Private Equity market focusing on reporting out of the system for auditing and other purposes.

He continues to assist the Guernsey Government by sitting on an innovation team looking at how new technology can be deployed within the island and ensuring that the islands legislation keeps pace with advances in technology.

Daniel Masters

Chief Investment Officer at Global Advisors (Jersey) Limited

Daniel Masters is currently Chairman at Global Advisors Holdings and Co-Principal at CoinShares, a group which represents XBT Provider, issuer of Europe’s only exchange-traded bitcoin note. It is also composed of the team responsible for GABI, a Jersey-based, actively managed, bitcoin investment strategy; and previously responsible for the Global Advisors Commodity Investment Fund and the Global Advisors Commodity Systematic Fund.

Before Global Advisors, Daniel began his career in Oil and Energy trading for the likes of Shell and Solomon and, prior to co-founding Global Advisors in 1999, served as Global Head of Energy and Trading Business at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company (“MGT”) in New York (Now JPMorgan). Mr Masters has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics from Exeter University, UK, and a Masters of Management Science and Operational Research from Imperial College, London, UK.

Andrew has spent time in London, Jersey and Luxembourg working in Wealth and Investment Management for leading financial institutions such as UBS and Blackrock.

Educated at Victoria College in Jersey, Andrew obtained an undergraduate diploma in law from the University of London and studied International Financial Services (BSc) at Jersey International Business School.
