The breadth of the challenge linked to cybercrime can sometimes be bewildering. David Ferbrache, OBE

Technical Director - Cyber Security at KPMG and former Head of Cyber at the Ministry of Defence

A UK national cyber security expert, David is the Technical Director for the UK cyber security practice. He works with KPMG’s largest clients across multiple sectors to help them understand high-end cyber threats and future security challenges. David leads KPMG’s cyber defence services and thought leadership activities in the UK. He has over 25 years' experience of all aspects of information security, information management, as well as broader government policy making, defence and international affairs.

David has worked with financial, pharmaceutical, oil and natural gas multinationals exploring the threat to their firms, developing potential cyberattack scenarios, and helping prioritise cyber security investments. He has organised executive-level cyber security wargames and exercises which bring the cyber threat to life for key clients, and as well as helping them develop appropriate control frameworks and cyber response playbooks.

David was previously a senior civil servant in the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), leading many innovative and challenging projects in defence, including:

  • As Head of Cyber and Space for the MoD, establishing and leading a four-year £90 million defence cyber security programme
  • David was also a major contributor to both UK national cyber security strategies; leading pan-Whitehall and international engagement on cyber security, and advising ministers and senior military on policy and parliamentary issues
  • Undertaking the first UK critical infrastructure review, running the first UK/US cyber wargame, and playing a key role in establishing national cyber security programmes and structures for the UK

Chief Executive Officer of Jersey International Business School

Chris has over 20 years’ experience in international financial services, working both in the UK and offshore, for major financial institutions such as Barclays Wealth and Santander.

Formerly an International Investment Manager he advised both individuals and corporate entities on complex investment scenarios. He now specialises in delivering training in investment management, taxation and regulatory matters in international finance centres around the world.

Chris is a specialist chairman of a number of high-profile events, including conferences such as the Annual Compliance & Economic Crime Symposium and the International Taxation Conference. As an expert in the financial crime risks posed to international offshore financial centres, Chris was invited to speak at the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) conference on the topic of ‘Understanding the Criminal Vulnerabilities of Offshore Products and Services’.

Head of Economic Crime Directorate at City of London Police

Glenn Maleary is a City of London Police Detective Chief Superintendent and leads their Economic Crime Directorate.

In this role Glenn has the strategic responsibility for: the economic crime academy; the national fraud and cyber reporting centre; the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau, as well as dedicated fraud teams, money laundering and asset recovery units. He also leads a dedicated intellectual property crime unit, and through several of his teams he has cyber disruption and protection staff, reducing the online risks posed by criminals.

Glenn joined the police service in 1990 and at each rank until present has served in uniform and detective roles, resolving high-risk, fast-moving crime and public safety incidents. In these roles, he has drawn upon experiences developed in his early career when tackling organised crime groups locally and nationally.

In his spare time, Glenn enjoys walking his working cocker spaniel dogs and pursues a variety of sports, including alpine skiing, kite surfing, and wind surfing.

Colin is the Founder and Director of Intelect Solutions. He has over 35 years' investigative experience in law enforcement and the private sector. His company specialises in harnessing the Internet to gather intelligence, conduct confidential investigations for his clients or training people to do the same.

He has delivered his acclaimed training all over the world to delegates ranging from compliance officers, investigators, police officers, prosecutors and risk managers. His courses have particular appeal to the financial services sector which has led him to train in territories such as the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Northern Cyprus, Albania, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Malta.

Also a qualified and experienced trainer, Colin is a member of the Association of British Investigators and the British Institute for Learning & Development (BILD).

Guy joined Greystone LLC, Chartered Accountants as a Partner in 2006, becoming Managing Partner in 2012.

Prior to that he worked at KPMG, Deloitte and Moore Stephens on the Isle of Man and has over 17 years’ experience of auditing and advising local firms, both in financial services as well as those operating in a wide variety of other sectors. 

He is also a chartered tax advisor and heads up the firm’s tax practice. He is a past Chair of the Isle of Man branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).

With over 20 years' onshore and offshore audit and advisory experience Steve works closely with all clients to consider the impact of fast-paced changes in industry, alongside applying – and complying with – current and upcoming regulation, covering areas such as data privacy, data governance and assurance, regulatory compliance and remediation, and risk management.

A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, Steve sits on the Chamber of Commerce’s ICT sub-committee, and leads PwC’s close working relationship with the Manx ICT Association.

Iain McDonald became the Isle of Man Information Commissioner in September 2015 as a result of the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act 2015. Previously Iain had been the Island’s Data Protection Supervisor.

Iain is a co-proposer to the Madrid Resolution 2009 on "International Standards on the Protection of Personal Data and Privacy" which was the catalyst for the reform of European Data Protection instruments, which has resulted in the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the EU Police and Criminal Justice Data Protection Directive and modernisation of Council of Europe Convention 108.

Associate, Dispute Resolution at Appleby

Mark is an Associate within the Dispute Resolution Department in the Isle of Man, and joined the firm as a trainee in September 2010. Since qualifying as a Manx Advocate in November 2012, Mark has appeared regularly in the Isle of Man High Court of Justice and practices a broad range of commercial litigation. Mark has experience in a wide variety of general commercial litigation matters, including debt recovery, contractual disputes, corporate insolvency, enforcement of foreign judgments and cross-border mutual assistance actions. Furthermore, Mark has previous experience in litigation relating to subject access requests under the Data Protection Act 2002, and in providing support and guidance on reporting obligations where there has been a breach of data security.

Katherine was commissioned as an Isle of Man Advocate in 2013 after being awarded a commendation in the Manx Bar Exams. She practises a broad range of corporate matters and is a member of the funds and investment services team and data protection teams at Appleby. Katherine regularly provides regulatory advice to banks, insurance companies, investment businesses and those looking to explore new projects. Katherine also has experience of acting on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and listings on public markets and providing advice on directors’ duties and shareholder rights.
